Who we are

We are Courtney and Mari, co-owners of the Bookmark Cafe. We both grew up in Martinsburg and are so excited to bring a little piece of ourselves to Berkeley County! Mari has a deep love of literature - they have a Master’s in English, and taught for BCPS for years before taking on this new adventure. Courtney loves to cook and bake, but especially to share what she makes with others! She lives with Celiac Disease, so it was important from the very beginning that the Bookmark would be a dedicated gluten free space.

Once we put our ideas together, we realized that we were creating something incredible! Fresh food, strong coffee, all the books you can read, and an inclusive environment for book lovers, artists, poets, authors, and creatives to share ideas, performances, and a sense of community.

While the cafe is under construction, you can try out a limited menu of gluten free baked goods, or order from our used book selection! All food products are baked by Courtney, using dedicated gluten free equipment, but we still have to tell you the following:
